We spent another night at Miss Janet’s.  We have pitched our tents right in her back yard.  The weather has been decent since Monday evening, so it has been quite nice.

We stopped by Walmart once again, just to grab a couple of things for lunch, and then we were on our way.  The roads here are torture for Ryan and Riley, who both get car sick easily.  Finally we made it!

Miss Janet dropped is off, with plans to pick us up at Iron Mountain Gap.  And we were off, ready to hike 16 miles.

I think I will be so disappointed when I print my photos from this trip.  Not a single one has done the scenery any justice.  We could not have asked for a clearer day.  It was simply amazing.

One fun thing about southbound Slack packing is that you are able to see people who have been ahead of you for awhile.  We ran into a couple of familiar faces.

We ate lunch and then we pretty much hiked at our own pace, which means that Ava and Kole led the pack, and I enjoyed the more leisurely stroll down the mountain.  I tried to see how many different flowers I could capture.  Everything is so green now, and now as the flowers are blooming, little speaks of color are appearing.

Flowers, sunsets and BUTTERFLIES!  This isn’t the best picture, but I love the brilliance of the blue hues on this kind of butterfly.  They are so brilliant!

Miss Janet had told us before we got on the trial, that we were going to go to an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet.  She was planning to pick us up from the trail at 7:00.  At 6pm, I still had three miles left to hike, so I decided to give trail running a chance.  It was really nice.  The trail was relatively root free and rock free so anytime the trail was flat or downhill, I jogged.  It was awesome!  I stopped to take a couple more pictures of the sun setting over the field.

We were met at the Gap with ice cream sandwiches, and headed off to dinner.  The dinner was OK, nothing to write home about, but it was already prepared, and had more flavor than our backpacking food.  We definitely had full bellies when we got back to the house, and after really quick showers, we were off to sleep again.

So in two days we conquered 36 miles!!!  It is quite insane to think that on our first day, 4.4 was a good distance for us. We have come a long way, and we are still having a great time!
